Post Corona Virus Lockdown Thursday 14 May - Sunday 17 May 2020

Finally, the premier announced that 5 (non household) guests could come to your house, and that you were now freer to travel (post corona virus lockdown)

He had said earlier that if you had another home, you could go to that, but we thought it better not to...

Anyway, Justin and I drove up to the house on Thursday afternoon, and had a wander around to see the underpinning progress  - was starting to get dark - so didn't see all that much

Had brought some supplies from Coles - so had them for dinner - a couple of ready made curries and rice - was pretty good

Ate in the kitchen, as the dining room is still uninhabitable, and then retired to our bedroom - as the upstairs room is likewise non set up

Friday, and Justin and I had breakfast in the kitchen.  Had the panel heater on, as it was quite cold  - about 10 degrees celsius when we started

But then, some of the underpinner's crew came and were using a compressor powering a blower to remove loose mortar, stones between the bricks in preparation for the underpinning next week

However, what with the 2 x heaters on - one in the bedroom, and one in the kitchen, and the compressor - the power kept tripping.  So we had to turn off the heaters.....until they had finished with the blower

Justin stayed in the kitchen doing his work, while I donned overalls and went out into the garden

Weeded, trimmed, planted a couple of small trees - a crab apple and a peach or nectarine that had come up in the wrong spot at home

Also pulled out a lot of euphorbias (and gave them to Anne @ CWA)  and found that there were lots of self sown poppies in the path

Carefully pulled them out

and then replanted  them all over

Found a small key in the front garden bed

I was whatsapping Michaela, and saying that it was the key to a hidden treasure chest (that I haven't found as yet).  She was very excited

And also found a not quite ripe orange hiding under some leaves

We also inspected the underpinning works to date

And the mounds of dirt keep growing

Had our regular zoom drinks catchup at 5pm with our Melbourne neighbours - Did it from the rotunda - I think I probably hotspotted the ipad with my mobile

Was a gorgeous afternoon, but was definitely getting a bit cold by the time we finished

I elected to go inside and have a nice hot bath, and suggested that Justin go and get us a takeway dinner (and support the town)  he thought he'd be 10 or 15 minutes, and thought that wouldn't be long enough for me to have a bath

Well, it was long enough, because it wasn't 10 or 15 minutes, it was 40.....

Basically, Justin had put his order in, but the counterhand hadn't given the order to the kitchen.  Justin realised something was up when people who came in after him were leaving with their food well before him

He went and enquired, was given a perfunctory sorry, and waited some more.  Meanwhile I was enjoying a very hot bath, the residual heat of which kept me warm for the rest of the night - yay

Justin eventually returned (we'd kept in touch by mobile phone).  I was out of the bath by then, and had plates, and glasses ready.  We had schnitzel burgers and chips - and they were pretty good, and certainly worth the wait ( also because the wait gave me the opportunity to have a nice long bath).

Saturday, and a bit of a sleep in and stay in bed, reading the paper on line etc.  Then into the garden for me, and Justin did some odd jobs - ie fixing up the broken wooden towel rail

We were invited to Terry's for dinner (first post corona virus lockdown dinner invitation).  And it was superb!!! he had outdown himself - had a French theme.  Delicious cheeses and his own cherry tomatoes with basil to start, then French Onion soup, followed by Beef Bourgignon, and then pears poached in red wine.  Was a terrific night, great food, great company, and great to be out of lockdown

Sunday, and another lazy start, I did more work in the garden - trying to get rid of the dreaded oxalis - which comes up again when its cooler, and Justin did some filling and undercoating of the rotunda

Underpinning March - May 2020

Given the Corona Virus restrictions for non essential travel, we haven't been to Inglewood for a while.

However, Peter the underpinner has been continuing to work there with his crew, and has kept us appraised of progress via photos/text messages/phone calls

Here are some of his photos

Complete with a moar for some of the later ones - as we had experience yet another downfall
