The final inspection

Well, imagine our surprise that Justin's cousin Becky and her daughter Elise live in Inglewood

Joy the miracle pony

 - we knew that Becky lived around Bendigo, but had no idea that they are just about neighbours. They've been there for about 6 years and she's set up the Quest Horse and Donkey rescue organisation.

She has also provided us with some local misinformation.  It was said that the woman with the successful bidder was from an old Western district family, and that Nimmitabel was rightfully hers -and that it's now back with the true owners....Poor Jan, out of the limelight for the last 10 or so years and no one recognises the 1st Victorian female attorney general!

Anyway, Becky and Elise met us at the house to have a final inspection.  Jamie (who I mistook for Luke)  let us in - unfortunately the cellar was somewhat flooded, and smelled...more buckets and leaks on the 1st floor also.  But nothing substantially different, so the final inspection as ok.  Grass had grown a lot higher so we didn't want to walk around much for fear of snakes.  I did stand on a strange large sandy sort of mound and the kids starting yelling  that bull ants were erupting from it - I jumped off quick smart!  Becky gave us a name of a local handyman/retired farmer who she thought could keep the garden under check and do other odd jobs for us. Potted around for a while, the kids played with Elise went and saw the donkeys and horses etc.

We're also surprised by how many people are familiar with the house, some of our neighbours in King Street knew it - through travelling up to Mildura, Also at Christmas they had given us what I thought was a rather strange present - a can of butane gas, which actually went with the real present which was a camp stove to use at Nimmitabel given our dearth of practical cooking options.  How lovely and considerate.  Some of Karen  & Mark's friends knew it also, as did some of Justin's legal colleagues and acquintances.

It likewise has a presence on the web,  a couple of people are selling greeting cards /prints etc

And there is a story that there is a tunnel from the house to Tivey's general store - Jamie had said that the entrance might be behind one of the mirrors in the front room (see the photo below). That will keep us busy searching for a while.
